Fashion Friday: The Bump

Yesterday I officially hit  14 weeks, and my bump decided to come out of hiding. It has been playing a game where my stomach is flat, albeit with my normal lower pooch, until noon and then after lunch it is out in full force. No matter how well I eat, and how much water I drink, the bloating makes me look like I am further along than I really am. I’m one of the last of my friends to get pregnant, so I’ve been told about all sorts of not-so-fun side-effects, but nobody warned me about the bloating!

Aside from the 4-week-just-found-out shot, I didn’t start weekly pictures until I noticed a (barely there, but still making its presence known) bump at 10 weeks. I searched through my photo library to find a before side shot, and the best I came up with is this cherry picking shot from this past summer:

and this downward shot of the belly before:

And here is what we’ve got going on week 4:

Baby Spinach was the size of a poppy seed, which I didn’t have – but I did have chia seeds, which are roughly the same size.

10 weeks 2 days:

Baby Spinach was the size of a kumquat.

11 weeks 3 days:

Baby Spinach was the size of a lime.

12 weeks 2 days:

Baby Spinach was the size of a lemon, but I forgot to grab one at the store.

13 weeks 2 days

Baby Spinach was the size of a peach, but they aren’t in season.

14 weeks 1 day

Baby Spinach is the size of an orange, but I forgot to pick one up at the store. Also, all I want to wear is yoga pants…so much for fashion.

So there you have it, Bump Watch 2012 is on – be expecting a picture update once a week (most likely on the weekends).

Help fill my rapidly expanding google reader:

Who are your favorite expecting bloggers?

Mine are:

Julie, Kath, Caitlin, Kara and I would say Sarah, but she just had her baby girl last night!

Fall inspired Fashion Friday

I can’t believe it is already Black Friday. Do you participate? I don’t! I prefer Cyber Monday, as claustrophobia will take over my entire being in large crowds. Even if you aren’t claustrophobic, Black Friday can be a nightmare. I also plan to partake in Small Business Saturday tomorrow 🙂

I’ve been slacking in the work outfit picture taking department. The gloomy weather is affecting my ability to wake up at a decent hour.  And, it doesn’t matter if I take the picture before or after work, the sun isn’t up at either time of day! But I do have a few outfits to share from the past few weeks.

Thanksgiving attire: silk top: Hurley, cardi: Target, belt: target, leggings: Ross, boots: Loft, necklace: Rachel via Nordstrom Rack

Top: Kenneth Cole, Cardi: Halogen, tights: HUE, (in need of polish) boots: Born, bracelet/earrings: Nordstrom Rack

Dress: Target, Boyfriend Cardi: 14th & Main via Nordstrom Rack, tights: HUE, shoes: payless (and they are comfortable!), necklace: Target

Top: Nordstrom Rack (it is actually a pajama shirt!), belt: Forver 21, scarf: Nordstrom Rack, jeggings: J Brand, booties: Nine West

*fun fact, the pictures behind me are of my paternal grandparents on their wedding day and my parents on their wedding day. We had a picture of each grandparent and parent on their respective wedding days at our wedding, and I love having them in the house. So much love!

What is your favorite fall color palatte?

I am LOVING the gray/mustard combo in the first outfit. Also loving mustard + navy and mustard + chocolate brown. I’m bummed my new school colors are red and black. My last school was black & gold, which are much more fun!

How pinteresting: volume recreation

I always see cute outfits pinned by others, but I never recreate them. I blame my rather boring closet, which I’m sure is no excuse in the eyes of a creative outfiteer.* That’s why I only have two outfits for this week’s Fashion Friday.

*outfiteer: a fashion blogger who creates cute outfits out of whatever they find in their closet, boutiques, department stores and thrift shops. Coined by me. Think: Disney Imagineers.

Cardi: Cable and Gage, Ruffle polka dot top: The Loft, Jeans: 7 For all Mankind (Dojo fit), shoes: Me Too, necklace: NY&Co.

Sweater: DKNY, belt: Steve Madden, Skirt: Express (from when I worked there in 2002!), tights: HUE & bow tied mary jane’s: Nyla

The shoes were my favorite part, and unfortunately the flash obscured their beauty. Here’s a few shots from my iPhone,

Dainty, aren’t they? My feet looked adorable, and my kidlets kept commenting that I was wearing Mrs. Granger’s shoes. Mrs. Granger is the teacher in our first read-aloud book, Frindle. Yay for text to self connections! Although, Mrs. Granger is an elderly spinster with a bun and stockings, which concerns me a little about how old they think I am…

However, I attempt to assemble cute outfits from my back-to-basics wardrobe, and I know other teachers do too. Which is why I signed up to be in this months Teachers Have Class and Style outfit party!

I’m also making more of an effort to do something about my hair in the mornings. I usually reserve hair and makeup fun for the weekends, when I have time to experiment. But after slamming a large chai tea Sunday afternoon, and subsequently not falling asleep until 1 a.m. Monday morning, I watched tons of hair tutorial videos I found via this pin.

(click on photo for pin, original image found here)

I originally pinned this hair cut/style a while back, longing for more volume, but thinking it was unattainable for me. My hair is very fine, but I have a lot of it. It is a really weird combination, and it drives me insane. I didn’t even realize there was a video linked to the pin (darn those people who don’t add appropriate descriptions to their pins!), but was pleasantly surprised to discover that Kate has a full on video tutorial on how to do this style.

(source)

Even more, her cut is just a grown out version of my cut, and she has the same hair type as me. **swoon** I’m not ashamed to admit I watched every hair tutorial, ran to Ulta for supplies the following day, and have been trying her directions every morning this week.

And the results? Well, they are quite pinteresting. Thanks again to Camille for hosting another Pinterest Recreation Party!

Here is what my hair normally looks like:

No volume in the back…

and none on top

And after using Kate’s bouncy curled under tutorial,

Poof! It might not look like much to you, but this is more volume than I’ve had in my entire life. I also didn’t have Aquage, which Kate swears by. I used GUTS by Redkin, but I plan to buy a bottle of Aquage soon.

I also tried her flat iron bangs trick, and they laid perfectly flat!

What have you recently pinned and recreated?

I’ve pinned and recreated curly hair, an owl pumpkin and sweet and salty pumpkin seeds. Join in the fun at All Things Lovely!

Walk a mile in my shoes

I love shoes. Runners, wedges, flats, boots, peep toes, and occasionally heels. Heels are reserved for when I’m sitting, however. I have terrible balance.

When I saw this teacher shoes linky party on Cardigans and Curriculum, I knew it would pair perfectly with this week’s Fashion Friday. I’ll share this week’s shoes, along with a few other favorites below.

Monday

Dress: One Clothing, cardi: The Loft, belt: Hobo, booties: Target

Wednesday

pants: White House Black Market, Tank: Bobeau, Cardi: Forever 21, scarf: Merona, boots: Born

Thursday

Scarf: Free People, Cardi: Halogen, Cami: Halogen, Jeans: Banana Republic Ultimate Skinny (my second pair of pants for the day…)

Rilo wanted to join the fun, so she gave me a double high-five.

Friday

Cardi: Halogen, Top: Halogen, Necklace: Nordstrom Rack, Jeans: Banana Republic Ultimate Skinny, shoes: Sam Edelman Charleen

And now for the linky party shennanigans. Mrs. Orr, over at Cardigans and Curriculum, thinks:

Comfortable Shoes = Happy Teacher = Better Mood, Better Instruction, More Patience!

I agree! So I’m linking up with my favorite teacher shoes. All are practical, and most are cute. I only have a few dowdy pairs, but sometimes they are necessary.

The cute

Sam Edelman Charleen

I’m sad black and gold are no longer my school colors, these were perfect!

Clarks Wedges (similar)

Born Boots (similar)

I pretty much live in these between November and March.

The not so cute

Naturalizer Hasten (in grey)

Dankso Caroline

Me Too Lawton

The ugly

Crocs Olivia

At least they aren’t your standard croc, but their still not very cute. However, they are perfect for standing all day. I wear these more often than I’d like to admit.

What are your favorite work shoes?

Fashion Friday backlog

A few of my favorite bloggers do fun Friday posts, which include either fun facts or random fun bits of information. I have a massive amount of random pictures on my computer , which were intended for the blog, but never quite made it here. I also I missed fashion Friday last week…and the week before. I need to get my ducks in a row.

Today I’m attempting to merge my standard Fashion Friday with random photos.

First up, a bunch of outfit pictures from the past 3 weeks that never made it to the upload button…

And second, random photo fun!

I spotted this Annz Panz sign in Hood River this summer. I just thought it was fun and cute 🙂 It was supposed to go in my half marathon recap post, but WordPress and I weren’t getting along that day.

This fun condiment carrier was spotted at the Alpine Brewing Company (on our San Diego road trip this summer). I thought it would be a fun way to hold condiments at an outdoor bbq party this summer…then I never had one.

I you’re a long-time reader, you may remember when my brother, fondly referred to as Libb (live-in-basement-brother), lived with the hubs and I. He would receive instructional cooking texts from me on a daily basis. This is what I found after I requested he brown the taco meat:

This is my first attempt at pressing tofu…it didn’t work out as well as I’d hoped.

And finally, I spotted this disgusting monstrosity that is masquerading as a balanced breakfast, and knew I had to share.

If you’re a blogger, how many random photos do you have just waiting to be unleashed, but you don’t really have a reason to post them?

Say hello to my elephant, she needs a name.

Wow, two weeks in a row I’ve managed to get my stuff together to get fashion Friday post put together. I’m pretty impressed with myself.

Monday

dress: Mossimo (Target), ribbon belt: Gap, shoes: Dansko

Tuesday

Dress: Ann Taylor Loft, Bag: Coach, shoes: Dankso, Necklace: NY&Co.

Wednesday

(cooled down to 85!)

Top, burmudas: Ann Taylor Loft, Cardi: Banana Republic, wedges: Born

Thursday

Dress: eci, Cardi: Banan Republic, Shoes: Aerosoles

Friday(!!)

Ruffle shirt: TJ Maxx, Cardi: Halogen, Capris: Banana Republic, shoes: Lucky

Today was College shirt Spirit Day. I completely forgot, until I got to school and saw all the teachers and office staff wearing Gonzaga, WSU and Easter apparel. I improvised by attaching my GO ZAGS! door sign to my shirt.

Fiday funny: if you look closely you can see my elephant. I need an “E’ name for her. She is attached to my school badge/school keys. One of my kids noticed it says Coach on it, and asked me what sport I coached. I didn’t realize she was referring to my elephant and couldn’t figure out why she thought I coached a sports team.

It didn’t stick all day, but I was at least wearing Gonzaga colors to make up for my mistake 😉

Where did you go to college?

I went to Saint Mary’s College of California my Freshman year and then transferred to Gonzaga University my Sophomore year. I graduated with a B.A. from there (Communications & Sociology) in 2005. I attended Whitworth University for my Masters in Teaching, and graduated in 2010.

What should I name my elephant?

I’m leaning toward Eleanor, but I am open to other E name suggestions.

The return of Fashion Friday

I let Fashion Friday slip and slide all the way down the summer black hole. But now that I’m back to work full-time, it has resurfaced. The soaring temps + lack of functioning windows (or a/c for that matter) left me searching through my closet for clothes that would keep me cool, yet would still be teacher-appropriate. Tuesday

Dress: Max Studio, Wedges: Clarks (similar)

Wednesday

Dress: Ann Taylor Loft, Cardi: Nordstrom Rack, Shoes: Dansko (I finally broke down and bought some comfort shoes. Not the cutest, but oh, so comfortable!)

Friday

Denim bermudas: Ann Taylor Loft, Ruffle shirt: Banana Republic, Wedges: Clarks. Sidenote: look how sad Rilo is that I’m not spending all day with her 😦

I have to say, Clarks and Danskos are perfect teaching shoes. I had my doubts, but I’m glad I purchased both pairs. This week has included some rather long days, and even longer nights. Comfortable shoes are a must! (I explained this to my kiddos during my I-PICK lesson, they agreed 🙂 )

I’m easing back into my old routines of picking out my outfit and hanging it the night before, packing my breakfast and lunch, and making multiple days meals at once. I wasn’t able to fully organize my first week back, but I’m hoping to be completely back in my normal routine next week. This weekend I plan to make a few freezer meals/drinks I’ve been storing in my pinterest account:

Pumpkin Spice Latte on a budget

Guacamuffins

Homemade egg Mcmuffins

Slow Cooker Freezer Meals!

Also check out Megan’s Slowcooker Butternut Squash, Zucchini, and Sausage Stew!

No bake granola bars
