21 Weeks

How Big is the Baby?

She’s around 8 inches crown to toes and about 1 pound – approximately the length of a spaghetti squash. Mmmm, spaghetti squash.

How I’m Changing

OMG it’s huge! That’s what she said.

My hips, rump, and ribcage are definitely wider. And I need new sports bras stat. As well as some new work out clothes. Finding maternity work out gear is quite the expensive endeavor, so I haven’t purchased anything yet. But I need to at least buy one pair of shorts, as mine are quite uncomfortable on the belly.

How I’m Feeling

via

I woke up violently ill at 2 a.m. Thursday morning (exactly 21 weeks) and was home sick Thursday and Friday. I rarely take sick days, especially since I am hording them to use as maternity leave next school year, but there was no way I could teach. I was barely able to type up sub plans and run them into school. I’m not sure what I had, some sort of stomach virus accompanied by a fever, but I’m glad it is over. I’m still not 100%, but close enough. I called the triage nurse at my midwife’s practice and she said as long as I was keeping down fluids I was fine and didn’t need to come in. Ummm, fine? Yeah, I was bawling because I was in so much pain. Ok, so part of that was probably hormones. Being sick while pregnant is no fun because you can’t take any meds. Not that being sick without being pregnant is any fun.

What I’m Eating

I’d say watermelon, but the last two have been very mealy. Gross. I have been enjoying bananas, blueberries and strawberries as well as peanut butter and honey sandwiches. I pretty much subsided on coconut water Thursday, Friday and Saturday. So I am welcoming anything in solid form.

Odds and Ends

I was asked for the very first time when the baby is due by a checker at Wal-Mart. I’ve finally pushed past the “pregnant or ate too many cheeseburgers” phase. The bump is out and proud.

Oh, and I hate going to Wal-Mart, but I’ve been bit by the nesting bug and was down on my hands and knees cleaning baseboards and moping floors when I realized I needed a new broom/dustpan, and a variety of other cleaning supplies. So a trip to the nearest superstore was necessary if I wanted to keep my sanity. Although I may have lost a bit of it on my shopping adventure.

Things I can’t wait to eat drink again:  a pint of Blackthorn Cider on the Elk patio

# of times I get up to pee each night:  down to 1!

Days until my next appointment: just one – we have our follow up ultrasound (because Baby Spinach was not cooperating at the anatomy scan 4 weeks ago) and my regular monthly check up tomorrow

Weight gained this week: eh, I lost 3 pounds being sick

Total weight gained: not sure because of the above statement, probably still around 6-7 pounds

Cravings: yesterday I was watching a really crappy Lifetime movie (you know you’re addicted too), and I could smell peanut butter cookies out of nowhere. I had to have them. I googled “chewy peanut butter cookies” but decided I’d rather pick up a sure thing rather than experimenting (mine always turn out crumbly). So I drove up to the 5-Mile Rosauer’s to pick up some chewy peanut butter cookies with fudge icing…omg yes. The baker at that particular grocery store really knows how to make the perfect cookie. Craving satisfied, but now I have 11 cookies that need to be frozen for future consumption.

Aversions: not to eating it, but preparing any meat totally grosses me out

What I miss: see above, re: things I can’t wait to drink again.

Reader Q: Have you ever had Blackthorn Cider?

It is amazingly delicious, and my favorite beverage on a hot summer day. It isn’t sweet like most hard ciders, just crisp and refreshing.

  1. You look great! I too hated the smell of meat being cooked with my first pregnancy. That’s probably why I’m a vegetarian now.

  2. If you’d like, we could hit a patio and I’ll have that cider for you, poor thing.
Also, do you mean to say you got a dozen fudgy PB cookies and ate ONE? Crazy prego lady.

  3. What a bummer getting sick! ….I was got a pretty bad cold in the very beginning of my pregnancy- like 7-10 weeks’ish. It was NO fun at all not being able to take any medication— I just needed meds soooo bad! (and I’m *NOT* a med taker, I was super sick)
Glad you’re getting back to feeling better! You’re looking great! *hugs* to you and baby spinach!

  4. 1) You look absolutely radiant.
    2) OMG it’s huge! That’s what she said-LOVE IT! Jeff and I do that’s what she said all the time…Other people don’t get it 😉
    3) I’m glad you are feeling a bit better!
